It’s not your son that gets the cops called on him because some white lady is “new” to the neighborhood and didn’t realize he lives on “her” street. You don’t know what that life feels like and I hope you never do. I told you what that feels like. Other members in the Black community told you what that feels like. You disregarded it. It’s real easy to make a damn sign that says Trust Black Women. Look cute and take a pic at the march… How are you living? That was enough for me. It was entirely too much but then I see another article that she calls “satire.” Literally mocking the spiritual practices in a Black church. She was invited into the spiritual space of a Black person and she mocked them. She wrote it up and shared it proudly. So now her white audience could read it and laugh, at our community. She made us the butt of white jokes so you could have some laughs while you sipped your tea. And we told you how it made us feel. She posted a half ass apology and you all quickly accept her apology! Well guess what? I wasn’t for you to accept. She didn’t take jabs at your spiritual practices. She didn’t tell your people to stop bitching about colonizers. YOU ARE THE COLONIZERS so you saw nothing wrong here. The fact that she directed that post to everyone and not specifically to Black people indicates that she hasn’t changed one bit. And neither have you. Do not over inflate your “progressiveness”. You do the same things. You give each other passes when you majorly fuck up. This was major just not to you. You gave her a pass. I actually saw one of your post saying “She can grow and learn…” Why do your people keep expecting my people to wait on you to grow to a place where you can be decent?! Why do you think we should accept your mediocre and treat it as if it’s our best? Do you think we don’t see how quickly you sell us out for one of your darlings? Have you lost your mind? I have questions… So you did your thing. You went out to the polls and flexed your white privilege. And now you want Black people to be happy with your choices. How many times are you going to do this? How many times do you expect us to clean up your privileged mess? Lizzie Fletcher is not the answer. She doesn’t even bother to show up for Black women. She has plenty of support from the wealthy donors. Unfortunately, for her, they can donate the maximum but they only have one vote. She hasn’t made efforts to bother with the “others” at all. She’s weak on labor. She too gave some half-ass explanation why AFL-CIO spoke out against her and you forgave her, like it was your place to do so. Those are Brown women and men getting screwed so it really doesn’t affect you. Rght? But you’re going to want us to help you get one of your little offensive darlings elected… What if we told you to stay the hell out of our neighborhoods? What if we told you, they don’t see us so how will they be any different than what’s already there? I told you, I have questions. See, it didn’t occur to you then but I hope it occurs to you know, you need the Black and Brown vote to win the general. Do you really think you have it? Really? Do you think you deserve it? Take your Trust Black Women and DACA signs and rip them up. Save your superficial “Solidarity” crap. You can preach that to your own damn choirs. Your voices are the only ones you can hear. Once again, you have proven that you don’t give a damn about ours. Kandice Webber is the Founder of Houston Rising and Organizer for Black Lives Matter Houston.
