Texas has the opportunity to move in a direction that ensures all Texans are served in an equitable and just manner. Every move we make must be centered on making sure that policies are developed to uplift and empower people and communities. For too long, the vulnerable among us have gone without the proper resources and support to get ahead.
My campaign is about bringing people together to create comprehensive solutions to build a better Texas for all of us. Building a better Texas for all requires thoughtful planning and working in collaboration for our communities. Texas is our home and we should want it to be the best possible place for all.
Looking at the issues that affect our communities and families, there are opportunities to adopt programs and initiatives that fundamentally change our collective wellbeing. Protecting the equal rights of all Houstonians is at the heart of our fight. It’s time for us to take charge of the decision-making to create an equitable and just city. Together we can make sure that everyone has a good outlook in life.

As your candidate for Texas House of Representatives 146, I am committed to fighting for the following:
Voting Rights:
Voting is a fundamental right that is guaranteed to all Texans. We must do all that can be done to all Texans know that they have the right to vote and be assured that their vote counts. This means that we must abolish policies and adopt laws that not only eliminates barriers to voting, but also ensures that all that the right to vote is protected by mechanisms that prevent gerrymandering and voter suppression. Improvements like:
Texas must improve access to voting rights by addressing gerrymandering which has compromised our ability to hold fair elections. As candidates and elected officials we do not get to draw district lines that advantages one party over the other. We represent all Texas and we should not be in a position that allows us to choose who votes for us instead of voters choosing who they want to represent them. |
Gun Reform:
Texans deserve access to safety from gun violence and that requires multiple solutions to address gun violence as it relates to intimate partner abuse, crime, mass shootings and including but not limited to school shootings. Texas can do this while honoring the right to bear arms by:
Texas should be looking for ways to care for the needs of our youth as they navigate life in school. We must eliminate campus carry and scrap any policies that call for the arming of educators, as these are NOT solutions. Texas can focus on the opportunity to expand access and funding for mental health services, racial and religious bias training, as well as focusing on what the root causes of gun violence may be. |
Criminal Justice Reform:
We have a broken criminal justice system that needs to be re-imagined by:
Legalization and decriminalization of Cannabis is just the start to ending mass incarceration and the racially biased failure we call the “war on drugs” that has negatively affected Black and Brown communities. Texas must be proactive in creating a way to end the carceral state by looking at every option on the table. These options include banning the box and implementing polices that our courts must follow that divert Texans with mental illness and disabilities, Texans who deal with substance abuse, and those who commit victimless crimes from being harshly punished because of unnecessarily stringent laws and unaffordable bail bonds. We must abolish for profit prisons and immigration detention centers that were created with racially biased intentions. The state of Texas must protect all of its citizens and that includes refugees, undocumented people and racial minorities in general. Re-imagining criminal justice must include the voices of those most affected and closest to the problems that stem from racially and gender biased laws to get the justice that we all deserve. In doing so we will protect our youth from the school-to-prison pipeline by creating realistic policies that divert and protect. Finally we must require comprehensive, continuing education for all law enforcement in Texas that will work towards ending racial and gender biases that everyday citizens may be exposed to when interacting with law enforcement. Ending racial profiling and other unethical practices that have caused distrust of law enforcement will not happen overnight, but we must:
We have to do more than just invest in educational training for officers in order to end racial profiling, promote de-escalation, and training on the appropriate use of force. Climate Change:
Immediate action is required to stem the future impacts of climate change while mitigating the impacts that we already experience. Legislation and regulations must be introduced to enforce environmental protections. This means that Texas must review what works and abolish what does not. Texas currently has the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), however this agency does not perform its intended mandate of protecting our environment. We must sharpen the teeth that TCEQ has, broaden the scope of regulations, increase funding for climate change research and mitigation. This can be done by building partnerships with county and municipal leadership and give them tools to regulate and mitigate climate change on a local level… all levels of government should be involved. With regard to the current impacts of climate change Texas must have comprehensive plans to address natural and man-made disasters. Whether it was Hurricane Harvey, Irma or even rain events, counties affected by these disasters have not gotten enough sufficient support to conduct effective recovery efforts. Texas must act now with these very simple actions:
If Texas truly wants to stem the negative impacts of:
We must reduce our use of energy while finding quick and long-lasting solutions that rely on renewable sources to power or lives forward. We can do this by:
We must act NOW if our future generations of Texans are to have a safe and healthy future where massive floods, major hurricanes, droughts, food shortages and other negative climate impacts are kept to a minimum. |
Immigration:
For Texas immigration needs to be reformed in a fair and equitable way that recognizes the contributions of immigrants. There would be no Texas without immigrants and today our state is as beautiful as it is because of the cultural, racial and ethnic diversity that we tout. However, we must remember that as great as we are today... We are on stolen land. Stolen land that was used to enforce archaic and inhumane chattel slavery while committing countless abuses towards the indigenous peoples of this land. It is with that in mind, that we must consider what fair immigration looks like:
The state of Texas is great because of the contributions from immigrants with different talents, skill sets and backgrounds. Health Care:
Health care is a human right and every Texan should have access to high-quality, affordable health care. The systemic disinvestment in statewide healthcare services has created a gap in access to care for many Texans. Texas must lead the way in providing comprehensive healthcare that is not only accessible to all Texans, but provides a level of service that warm and welcoming. We must protect all Texans’ health with special emphasis on the most vulnerable in our state.
We must abolish and remove barriers to access like pre-existing conditions and/or inability to pay for health-related services. An ethical and transparent approach to providing healthcare that goes beyond the Affordable Care Act exists. There is an opportunity to provide Medicare for all to all Texans that will place emphasis on preventative care that will greatly improve life chances and quality of life. Improving quality of life means making access to care affordable and accessible… Affordable and accessible care means getting rid of premiums, deductibles, co-pays and prescription costs. Removal of barriers of entry like bad policies that seek to violate women’s bodies and autonomy, are rooted in anti-LGBT sentiments, crisis pregnancy centers that misrepresent their services and are racially biased. We must ensure that Trans people and cisgender women have access to care that is non biased and respect the bodily autonomy that Women and Trans masculine men have over their own bodies and are provided access to medically sound reproductive health services. Every person with a uterus must have access to services that does not hinder any decisions regarding childbirth and should have access to contraception, counseling, family planning services, prenatal and postnatal care, affordable childcare, and all forms of reproductive care. |
